Support Built for What Your Job Actually Asks of You

You spend your shifts holding other people's worst days. The traumas, the losses, the moments where nothing you do feels like enough. Then you go home and you're supposed to just be fine.

At Recreating Dawn, we work with nurses, physicians, techs, first responders, and other care professionals across Lakewood and Cleveland who are carrying more than anyone realizes, including themselves. This isn't generic stress management. It's therapy built around what your job actually asks of you: chronic exposure to other people's pain, moral distress when the system fails a patient, and a culture that rewards pushing through instead of feeling anything.

You're Allowed to Need Support Too

Maybe you've told yourself you should be able to handle this. You've seen worse. Other people have it harder. So you keep showing up, keep performing, and quietly wonder why you feel numb, irritable, or like you're watching your own life from behind glass.

That's not weakness. That's what chronic exposure to other people's suffering does to a nervous system, especially one that never gets a chance to reset. Compassion fatigue, burnout, and moral injury are real clinical experiences, not personal failures, and they respond to the right kind of care.

What Makes This Different From "Just Talk It Out"

A lot of healthcare workers have already tried talk therapy, or a wellness webinar their hospital offered, and it didn't get anywhere near the actual weight they're carrying. That's usually because talk therapy alone doesn't always reach where this stuff lives.

Our team at Recreating Dawn works with trauma-focused approaches like EMDR and Brainspotting alongside more traditional counselling, specifically because these approaches can help process the specific moments (a call that didn't go the way you needed it to, a family's reaction, a mistake you can't stop replaying) that talk therapy alone sometimes can't touch. We also offer art therapy for people who find it hard to put this kind of exhaustion into words, which, if you've tried explaining it to a partner who doesn't work in healthcare, you already know can be its own kind of hard.

How Our Team Supports Healthcare Workers

Recreating Dawn is a team-based practice, not a solo practitioner with a waitlist. Founder Joy Williams trained in art therapy, EMDR (including EMDR intensives), Brainspotting, and Reiki. She now leads a team of therapists who each bring their own training and availability, which means you're not stuck waiting for one specific person to have an opening.

We're also an LGBTQ+ and kink-affirming practice that takes relationship diversity seriously, including polyamorous clients, so if part of what's draining you doesn't fit a traditional mold, you won't need to explain or justify that here on top of everything else.

What Working Together Looks Like

local_hospital

A first conversation, not a form.

We'll talk through what's been happening and what kind of support fits, whether that's talk therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, art therapy, or a combination.
healing

A match with the right clinician, not just whoever's next.

You'll be paired with a therapist on our team based on fit, availability, and the specific approach that makes sense for you.
accessibility

Sessions that build over time.

Some healthcare workers want weekly ongoing support. Others are drawn to EMDR intensives, longer private-pay sessions designed to work through a specific memory or incident faster than weekly sessions alone.

What Changes When You Get Support

  •  You stop carrying it alone. The moral weight of this work is real, and it's meant to be shared with someone trained to hold it with you.
  • You get your capacity back. Clients tell us they feel less reactive, more present with their families, and less like they're running on fumes between shifts.
  • You build tools that hold up under pressure. Not generic self-care tips, but ways of processing acute stress that actually work for someone whose job doesn't pause for a bad day.
  • You get to be a whole person again, not just "the strong one" at work and at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. Most of the healthcare workers we see haven't either. We'll walk you through what to expect before you're ever asked to do anything, and traditional talk therapy is always available too if that's a better starting point.

You don't need a diagnosis or a defining event to justify getting support. Chronic stress and compassion fatigue are valid reasons to reach out on their own.

Yes. We see clients in person in Lakewood and virtually across Ohio, which tends to work well for shift schedules.
