It can be hard to find holistic wellness practitioners who are aware of how trauma affects the mind and the body.

Most people who start Reiki feel curious about alternative modalities but don't know where to begin. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you try to rush to start something new but then you forget to look after yourself and your body, forgetting about what you've been through.

Wanting to grow but also afraid of feeling unsafe, you may feel like this cycle is exhausting.

Do You Feel Tired, Numb, Stressed?

Do any of the following resonate with you?

  • Your energy levels are at an all time low.
  • You have an insane schedule that doesn't let you rest.
  • The last thing you want to do at the end of the day is talk to someone.
  • You feel like you're living at a frenzied pace leaving you frazzled and stressed.

If these sound true for you, we want you to know that in our society, we don’t talk about it very much, but what you are experiencing is expected! It’s normal for every day tasks to feel exhausting and overwhelming for trauma survivors. Reaching out for help can provide you with the support and encouragement you need.

Self-care is not an indulgence or a selfish act. In fact, it is especially important to take care of yourself when you have the responsibility of caring for others.

How Reiki Works

Reiki consists of 30 minutes (in person or at a distance) one-on-one sessions that help you ease your stress and worries. Here’s how it will go step-by-step:

1. First, your Level 2 Trained Reiki Provider will introduce you to the process and the space so that you will feel comfortable.

2. Through brief grounding and getting to know your paperwork, your wellness provider will start to get a picture of what your challenges are.

You are encouraged to note areas of the body you decline to be treated.

3. Next your provider will start by helping you with immediate areas of concern like pain or emotional discomfort by holding their hands near an area of your body you identified.

They will move their hands, hovering over sections of your body in a slow, systemic way.

4. Over the course of your session(s), you may feel warmth, or physical sensations that can be soothing, or anxiety producing.

You are always encouraged to speak up about what you are noticing. And your provider might check in.

Research shows that Reiki can positively impact your chronic pain, psychology including emotions, and positively impact your recovery from illness, injury or surgery

At times wellness services, especially in addition to therapy and other trauma recovery modalities, can help you let go of what’s holding you back.
